Emmy award winning guitar player Charlie Karp and his band The 5 o’clocks released their new single entitled Small Girl in a Mighty World on December 31, 2014 at their performance at the Bear & Grill on Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield, Connecticut.
Charlie Karp became an instant living legend in 1971 when he dropped out of Staples High School in Westport at age 16 to take the lead guitar gig with the Buddy Miles Express, which was touring the world with Jimi Hendrix at the time. Charlie performed on four records with Miles including his biggest hit, Them Changes, featuring Karp’s blazing guitar solo.
Charlie went on to have his own bands including the Dirty Angels, Charlie Karp & The Namedroppers, and SloLeak with Danny Korchmar. In addition, he’s been a songwriter and producer for bands including Joan Jett, Ram Jam (of Black Betty fame) and the Joe Perry Project. Charlie has also performed with other stars including Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones, David Johannson, and Steven Tyler of Aerosmith.
Charlie Karp joined The 5 o’clocks when the band reformed earlier this year after not performing for more than 20 years. Small Girl was written by vocalist Paula Gallo and keyboard player John Lamb, who also produced the track. It is the band’s first release since adding Karp who contributed on vocals and guitar.
Gallo’s lyrics were inspired by her battle with Lyme disease.
Other members of the band are saxophone player Jon Saxon of Wilton and guitarist Fred Clark of New Fairfield. The other member of the band is drummer Jim Syarto of Milford.
Tickets are $20 at the door. Discounted tickets can be purchased in advance at www.the5oclocks.com
